Are you ready for the warmer weather? We can't hope for summer just yet. Spring is when people put their home to-do list together and March is when many homeowners begin the process of listing their home for sale. With all that's going on (or not, as the case may be) in the local housing market, many of us are deciding to stay put.
Whether you are selling or staying, there are some common sense maintenance activities that should be on this year's to-do list. In addition, there are key areas of the house, the kitchen, bathrooms and outside living areas, that deserve attention. Investing in these now will ensure that when you choose to sell, you'll be ready. In the meantime, you can enjoy the upgrades!
This month, I've pulled together some great resources that will help you whether you're getting ready to sell or staying in your current home. Learn what problems to fix before they become bigger problems; how to make the most of your existing space through renovation and remodeling; how to create (and maintain) curb appeal; how to add value to your entire home by upgrading your front door; and what your kitchens and bathrooms are saying to potential buyers (or your guests) and how to change the story they are telling.
In any economy, if you invest wisely and strategically you'll earn big dividends. To help you prioritize, you can review the Top Remodeling Projects in 2007, in our January newsletter. As always, My Handyman is available to support your efforts to repair, maintain or improve your home.

Deciding to Sell or Stay
For many people the decision to move is made for them, as with a new job. For others, the choice is more difficult as they need to weigh the cost and emotional stress of adding new space or moving. To help you decide, we offer several articles on the current market in NH:
February 2008, Where's the Bottom? from NH Association of Realtors, provides insight into the key factors that drive the NH housing market and some may surprise you
We also have a great article from 4 Walls member, Hannah Burke, that outlines the types of remodeling projects you can use to transform your current house into your dream home. Renovating to Stay in Place offers ideas to help with this difficult decision.
Preparing Your Home for Sale
We have several action packed articles to help you prepare your home for sale. The advice is key to making your home stand-out in today's buyers market and lots of the advice is practical even if you're not planning to sell your home.
Creating Curbside Appeal outlines the critical elements to get prospective buyers to view your home by attending an open house or scheduling an appointment.
Home inspections are traditionally done by the buyer. More recently, a pre-listing inspection has gained importance as it helps owners address potential issues early and/or adjust their listing price. Inspections focus on the structural elements of your home, from the roof to the foundation and drainage, along with heating, cooling, plumbing and electrical systems.
If you have been doing regular maintenance and repairing problems quickly, there shouldn't be any surprises. When I sold my 110 year old Victorian in Portsmouth, NH, we only had two action items to resolve and one existed before we bought the house.
We appreciate your business and look forward to providing you with the highest quality handyman services in the future.
